Which one should you get?

Adding Thunderbolt branches to an existing setup: investigate the Hub

Its simpler connection set may fit a desk where network, audio and card reading are already handled. Include any extra adapters in your own cost comparison.

Reconnecting a laptop to a complete desk: investigate the Dock

Built-in network, SD and audio connections may reduce separate accessories. The higher advertised laptop-power limit is another check, not proof that it meets every laptop workload.

Limits of this comparison

  • The Hub page identifies Thunderbolt 3 Macs with macOS Big Sur or newer, and Thunderbolt 4 Windows PCs, for its Thunderbolt features. USB-C fallback is not a promise of the same capabilities.
  • OWC says actual display support depends on the host. Verify the laptop model, port, display, refresh rate and any required adapter before relying on a multi-display marketing headline.
  • SKU association comes from an OWC manufacturer announcement dated November 2024, not a checked physical unit. It identifies the Thunderbolt 4 products here, not an OWC Thunderbolt 5 Dock or a current regional bundle. Historical promotion prices are not used.
  • No hands-on testing: speeds, simultaneous workloads, thermals and charging have not been measured. Advertised maxima are not a compatibility guarantee. Exact hardware revisions, regional bundles and your laptop/display combination remain unverified; prices, stock and returns are not tracked.
