Best Docking Stations for the 16-inch MacBook Pro (140W Charging)

Apple ships the 16-inch MacBook Pro with a 140W USB-C Power Adapter and calls it fast-charge capable with that adapter. Most docks top out below that, so under heavy load the battery can still drain while docked.

The 2024 and later 16-inch models also have Thunderbolt 5 ports, so a Thunderbolt 5 dock runs at full speed.

1. Best overall

CalDigit TS5 Plus Thunderbolt 5 Dock

CalDigit model TS5 Plus · Thunderbolt dock

Matches the laptop’s own 140W charger, runs at Thunderbolt 5 speed on 2024 and later 16-inch models, and adds 10Gb Ethernet and ten USB ports.

Works with
Thunderbolt 5 (Thunderbolt 4 / USB4 with PCIe tunneling)
Monitors
DisplayPort 2.1 + 2 downstream Thunderbolt 5 ports
Charging
Up to 140W
Ports
5× USB-A 10Gbps, 5× USB-C 10Gbps, 10GbE, SD/microSD, audio

Best for: Thunderbolt 5 laptops, 140W charging for big MacBook Pros, and 10Gb networking.

Watch out: Not for Thunderbolt 3 Windows PCs or plain USB-C ports. 10GbE needs a driver on Windows.

2. Most ports at 140W

Anker Prime Docking Station (14-in-1, Triple Display, DisplayLink)

Anker model A83B3 · DisplayLink dock

Up to 140W charging (with a laptop that supports USB PD 3.1), 2.5Gb Ethernet, card readers and three monitor outputs. Its extra outputs use DisplayLink and need Anker’s free app.

Works with
USB-C 10Gbps; macOS 13.5+ with DisplayLink Manager
Monitors
3 monitors: 1 DisplayPort + 2 HDMI (4K per HDMI per Anker’s FAQ)
Charging
Up to 140W (laptop must support PD 3.1)
Ports
3× USB-C (2 at 10Gbps), 3× USB-A, 2.5GbE, SD, microSD, audio

Best for: Two or three monitors on an M1 or M2 MacBook Air, plus enough charging for a 16-inch Pro.

Watch out: Needs the DisplayLink app and Screen Recording permission on macOS. Anker’s spec table and FAQ disagree on HDMI resolution (8K30 vs 4K); plan on 4K.

3. Best value (98W)

CalDigit TS4 Thunderbolt 4 Dock

CalDigit model TS4 · Thunderbolt dock

The proven Thunderbolt 4 dock. 98W keeps the laptop charged for everyday work; long GPU-heavy sessions may still draw the battery down.

Works with
Thunderbolt 4 / 3, USB4
Monitors
DisplayPort 1.4 + 2 downstream Thunderbolt 4 ports
Charging
Up to 98W
Ports
5× USB-A 10Gbps, 3× USB-C 10Gbps, 2.5GbE, SD/microSD, audio

Best for: A one-cable desk: charge, monitors, wired network and every peripheral.

Watch out: How many monitors work is set by your laptop chip, not by the dock.

How many monitors your 16-inch Pro supports

Apple lists two external displays for M4 Pro (up to 6K over Thunderbolt, or one plus a 4K HDMI display) and up to four for M4 Max. The M5 Pro supports three and the M5 Max four. Our Mac display-limits page lists every chip.

Why 140W matters

A dock’s charging rating is a ceiling, not a guarantee, and Apple ships the 16-inch Pro with a 140W adapter. A 98W dock is fine for office work; for video export, 3D or long builds, a 140W dock or the laptop’s own MagSafe charger avoids slow battery drain.
